Owning Who You Are

A dear friend, in her distinct quiet way, put “it out there” about her transgender nature. The reveal was done with grace and understatement – like a pebble on a pond with the faintest of rings stretching out in all directions. As she watched those trebling ringed waves radiate out she braced for the reverberation as they bounced off the edges and came back to the point of origin – her.

The early results are in… She has received many FB Likes from friends and has received positive surprising support from some others.

To quote her, “I’ve received so much support and love the past two days. It’s been amazing. People I did not think would stepped up have in a big way.”

That is all we want. Love. Understanding. Support.

And sometimes we are utterly surprised by the reaction and outreach we get from seemingly hardened, cynical, and closed-minded individuals.

It is all a cosmic crap shoot as to how people will react to us when they are told or when they find out by accident.

What is not “by chance” is how you hold yourself. No one can take your dignity away unless you let it happen. Your confidence is not measured by “idol votes” or popular opinion. And your piece of peace of mind and happiness is centered in you.

Congratulations and support to my friend, and to others following the same path. I am inspired and amazed by your strength.
